To our wonderful GGHA members,

With mid-May upon us – we are still coming to grips with what the world and our community are dealing with. Our hearts go out to all of those affected by this pandemic and our thanks go out to everyone on the front line helping us hold things together. We know that many of you in our association are on the front line, players and parents alike! Thank you, Thank you!

We wanted to reach out to you to give you an update on what the hockey landscape looks like as we know it today. During this unprecedented time, everyone is doing the best we can to forecast and plan, but it really is a day to day, week to week exercise. What we do know is that hockey is a very important part of the fabric of our membership and being able to look forward to hockey again is a hope that gives us the warm and fuzzies when we think about it.

Cathy Bureau, our president, had a call with OWHA last Monday that was attended by all presidents of the girl’s associations across Ontario. The main take away from the call is that the pandemic and hockey planning are in a constant state of flux and that Hockey Canada and the OWHA want to do everything they can to get hockey back on the ice as safely and responsibly as possible.

OWHA has asked all teams to cease hockey operations. There will be rumours about what may be happening or what other associations may be doing, but the reality is, we are all in a holding pattern.

Although we are all wondering when the ice will be back in, and when we can start running tryouts and sort-outs, as of right now, we don’t have the answers to any of these questions.
What we do know is that we hope and are planning to have hockey for the 2020-21 season. With this first and foremost on our minds – we have decided to open up registration. We are not asking for any payment at this point, as we don’t want our families to worry about any financial obligation during this stressful time. We know that it is a very difficult time financially for many in our community right now.

As you will notice we have moved to TeamSnap, we love the website and hope you do too!!!! Great news is that each team for the upcoming season will have the TeamSnap functionality for scheduling and player availability.

If you have questions, please feel free to reach out to any of the directors on your board.
Looking forward to seeing everyone in the coming weeks, be safe!
